Karnataka Neuro sciences Academy ( KNA)

In the early 1980’s  Neurosciences speciality was in  its infancy  with a handful of Specialists mainly concentrated in Bangalore and to some extent in Mangalore.

To facilitate professional interaction and discussion  among the Neuroscientists of Bangalore  an informal  “Neuro Club” was formed in 1983 .  As the membership increased it was time to form a formal organisation and Bangalore Neurological Society (BNS) was formed in 1994.

Since many years there were suggestions to form a State level organisation, however as the number of Neuro Scientists were limited to two or three cities in Karnataka the decision was differed.  Over the last couple of decades almost every district has specialists practicing Neurology or Neuro surgery.  Dr Suresh Duggani, Neurosurgeon and his team organised a “Neurosciences update” in Hubli- Dharward in March 2010. During this Update there was a gathering of Neurologists, Neurosurgeons from various district places and an informal discussion brought forth the suggestion that it is time  to start a state level professional organisation  named as “Karnataka Neurosciences Academy”, (KNA).  Immediately an adhoc body of office bearers  were appointed with Dr H V. Srinivas as its President, Dr P Satishchandra  as its Vice-President, Dr Suresh Duggani as its Hon. Secretary & Dr Datta Nadgir as its Treasurer.  The Executive Committee Members were Dr Chandramouli, Dr Vani Santosh, Dr Prashant Katakol, Dr Narayana Panji.

Dr H V Srinivas took the lead to draft the Memorandum of Association and  Dr Suresh Duggani  registered it as a society in October 2010 at Hubli.   The aim of the KNA is  to have a formal interaction amongst the Neuroscientists of the State and to promote the spread of Neurosciences in the district places by conducting CME and Annual conferences.  So far the response has been quite encouraging, though there is a long way to go.

The Logo of KNA was designed by  Dr Suresh Dugani. During the Annual conferences of KNA , in addition to various scientific programmes, Presidential oration was introduced and to encourage members to present the scientific papers, awards for best paper presentation- platform and poster were also introduced.

PAN Number of KNA is AABAK3045M
